Why does no one ever use the search feature?
Hey guys, I got a question, why doesn't anybody ever use the search feature?
It's quite stupid how no one can seem to find that golden text "Search" I think another rule needs to come and use the search feature because no one seems to know what it is, or maybe Arenanet could make a tutorial to show people how to use it? I'm tired of copying and pasting, and not getting heard because many others are spamming. "LFG LFG LFG GLF GLF GLF!!!!!11one" Hope you can answer my question guys. |

Because they are new, much like yourself, and it takes a good 2-3 weeks before the average human decides to actually see the utilities that are place in front of him. Anet doesn't run this Forum, so I don't actually see how they would write a tutorial on a small detail to something "related" to the game they make/run. Finally there is no point in flaming about the search button, as Ironically flaming is also (yep you guessed it) "against the rules"..

Avenge, I believe he was on about the Party Search feature in-game
In which case... for trading, it blows. The character limit kills it for people hawking their wares. For missions and questing... Who uses people nowadays? Also, I don't believe Party Search was *ever* mentioned in-game anywhere. There's probably a fair number of people who don't watch Game Update notes like a hawk, and never find out about the Search feature. |

Anyways, lets be more specific next time kk OP? As for the Question: Nobody uses it, because it is generally much easier to find parties, trade, and for parties via general & trade chat... BUT, why aren't you using the search button? wouldn't it make your life easier to use it for the resource of finding a party? ------------ URL: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10171204 |

Another reason is probably because most people think that is they spam LFG they will be noticed sooner then other people, and thus get selected sooner then other people (which is kinda true). |

I use the search feature all the time to add my heroes and henchmen to the party. It's quite convenient....
I honestly think it is a far more efficient PuG system than LFG spam in all chat, but this is PuGs we're talking about after all. |

People don't use the Party Search for lots of reasons:
1. People don't know about it. 2. People look at it and see very, very few posts in there, so don't see the point of the thing. 3. Traders don't realize how many people actually DO look in there (especially in the trade cities), so they don't post anything in there. 4. The lack of space for posting in there makes it hard to advertise weapons - Can't fit all the stats in there. (but for Greens and mini-pets and dyes, etc., it's got plenty of room) 5. People have been doing their group forming using all-chat since the very beginning. It's a good system for getting groups formed and the PS feature didn't really improve on that. Besides, old habits die hard, especially since there are so many people out there that don't look at/use the PS window. |

Also the fact it clears your message on district and town changes makes it useless for the traders that hop around to find someone to trade with.

Dunno where your looking, but I always see 1-7 people/groups searching for parties/or trading when ever I look in there (When ever I myself need a party I look.)

It's not used because it's not used. It has no momentum, for lack of a better word.
Anet needed to let the community know better. |

Okay, several reasons for me;
1) It is way to small to put an actual advertisment in there for an item you're trying to sell 2) If I'm trying to sell something, I want to sell it as quickly as possible. That means as much advertising as I can get. I don't spam towns, but I do give one or two little "WTS/WTB..." messages before I switch districts, and always after my last message diappears. So on average, I probably spend about one minute or less in each district. Point is; I would love to use the search function, but, as has been pointed out earlier, there is no way to fix a message when you travel. Even in the same town between districts. Let's see.... *Holds up hands in a balancing motion* Make a woefully understated message in search and then spam one district for half an hour until it sells or I get bored OR Travel between multiple districts of multiple towns reaching a much, much greater populace in a shorter time, limiting my spam to one or two messages in each district.. hmmm.... 3) As far as partying goes, you're either going to get one in a few seconds... or your not. Personally, I don't want to wait in a town long enough for a party that my search message would even be noticed. I think the main problem with search is that it just doesn't have enough popular momentum behind it. For nearly two years, players didn't have it, so they never got the into the reflex of using it. New players don't see a lot of people in there, so they think, correctly or not, that there isn't very much exposure for it. |

I tried used it, but since it did help me any further I stopped using it. I now use the WTB/WTS/LFP which usually gets me to what I'm trying to get.
Why does the search button not work? 1. The message size is too short. 2. You cannot quickly repeat your last message when hopping between towns. 3. Is anyone looking at this anyways? Last edited by Hyper.nl; Jul 16, 2007 at 08:46 AM // 08:46.. |

i think because in certain towns, especially temple of the ages when we dont have favor. theres a lot of competition, not everyone has a scroll or the money to buy one hence using the search feature risks not beeing seen. teams need 1 ss 1 tank, so not advertising in all chat might represent a longer wait to go into fow or where ever. i think in some places lfg spamage is something you have to bear.
